Erasmus is also for TEACHERS
Erasmus+ is a program dedicated not only to the young learners but also to TEACHERS. The most important objectives of this program is the exchange of information and development of schools and HEIs (Higher Educational Institutions). Nevertheless, Erasmus opens its gates to trainers, volunteers etc. Since according to the Erasmus Programme Guide, Erasmus+: Individuals – students, trainees, apprentices, pupils, adult learners, young people, professors, teachers, youth workers, professionals of organizations active in the fields of education, training and youth constitute the main target population of the Programme. Thus, Erasmus is for teachers, also!
Dear teachers, we strongly suggest you take part in the Erasmus experience since you have only benefits. Your participation in the programme, do matters for Europe! Erasmus+ is not only for students, Erasmus+ is for teachers, also!
Statistics have recently shown that Europe needs this exchange of information and good practices for its higher educational institutions.
Did you know that the main purpose of the European Union at the educational level is to give equal chances for a good education to all its young generation? By taking part in this programme with your knowledge and teaching methods you become ‘a voice’ for all the young generation. Moreover, you have the opportunity to learn other teaching methods from different cultures.

Who can take part?
Erasmus+ is open to many individuals and organizations, although eligibility varies from one action to another and from one country to another.
Individuals can take part in many of the opportunities funded by Erasmus+, although most will have to do so through an organization taking part in the program. The eligibility of individuals and organizations depends on the country in which they are based. Don’t hesitate to ask! It is your right as a European individual to take part in this program.
Erasmus+ supports teaching periods at higher education institutions (HEIs) abroad. If you work in higher education, you can spend time teaching at an institution in an Erasmus+ Programme or Partner country.( Non-UE countries)
Teaching opportunities are also available to staff working in Programme country organizations.
Examples of such organizations include businesses, public bodies, social partners, research institutes and non-governmental organizations.
Which countries can participate?
Eligible countries are divided into two groups, Programme countries and Partners countries. Although Programme countries are eligible for all actions of Erasmus+. The Partner countries can only take part in some and are subject to specific conditions.
EU Countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.
Also, a various list of other Non-EU Countries can take part of the program. You have to ask your Faculty and University if they are part of the program, that’s the essential rule.
Duration of the exchange
A teaching period between two Programme countries must last a minimum of 2 days and a maximum of 2 months. This excludes traveling time.
During your stay abroad, the teaching activity must comprise a minimum of 8 hours per week of actual teaching time.
Basic Conditions
If you work in an HEI, your institution must either, in the case of Programme countries, hold the Erasmus+ Charter for Higher Education. In another case of Partner countries, have signed an inter-institutional agreement with the receiving institution.
Financial support
EU grants provide a contribution to your costs for travel and subsistence during your time abroad and vary depending on:
- The receiving country.
In the case of mobility within Programme countries, the level of demand from staff from your country who intend to teach abroad.
- The distance between your country and the receiving country
- In the case of mobility within Programme countries, availability of other financial sources in your country or region
- If you’re teaching period abroad is between Programme countries as higher education staff, your sending institution will be responsible for making all payments. When you come from a business or organization, the HEI that invited you to teach takes care of the payments. Your teaching period abroad is between Programme and Partner countries. You’re sending and receiving institutions will decide which one will make your payments.
Grant levels for teaching periods abroad between Programme and Partner countries are published in the Erasmus+ Programme Guide. Check with your National Agency and your sending HEI for applicable rates for teaching periods between Programme countries. Don’ t hesitate in choosing Erasmus for teachers!
